Tyler Seguin has rejoined his Dallas Stars teammates on the ice as part of his ongoing rehabilitation after undergoing surgery on his right knee. The 34-year-old forward participated in the team’s captain’s skate earlier this week, which has sparked optimism that he could be available when training camp opens in roughly two weeks.
Seguin has been sidelined since Dec. 2, 2025, when he tore his ACL during a 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Rangers. He had surgery on Dec. 16, and the typical recovery window of around nine months aligns with the start of the upcoming training camp.
Seguin Skates Again
This return to the ice marks a positive step for Seguin, who appeared in only 27 games last season. Before his injury ended his campaign, he tallied 17 points with seven goals and 10 assists, along with a plus-10 rating.
During a press conference on May 4, Seguin mentioned that he felt positive about his progress, even though the recovery process has been challenging. He pointed out that ACL injuries are not typical in hockey, which makes it harder to compare his situation with others or follow a set recovery schedule.
The experienced forward also shared his belief that he can return at an even higher level. His rehab has included much more lower-body training than a usual summer, and he now does those exercises four times per week as part of his regular routine.
The ACL injury occurred during the Dec. 2 game against the Rangers, and Seguin went under the knife two weeks later. Given that the average recovery period is about nine months, his current progress suggests he could be ready when camp begins.
Seguin was picked second overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2010 NHL Draft. Over his career with Boston and Dallas, he has recorded 826 points in 1,016 regular-season games, including 367 goals and 459 assists.
In the postseason, he has added 79 points in 151 Stanley Cup Playoff appearances, with 29 goals and 50 assists.
Seguin was just one of several key players who spent time on the sidelines last season. Captain Jamie Benn missed the first 19 games after suffering a punctured lung, and center Matt Duchene was out for 24 games due to a head injury.
Defenseman Lian Bichsel sat out 31 games with a lower-body injury, while Nils Lundkvist missed 25 games for the same reason. Lundkvist also needed treatment for a skate cut on his face during Game 5 against the Minnesota Wild.
Forward Mikko Rantanen was absent for 15 games after hurting his lower body while playing for Team Finland at the 2026 Winter Olympics in February.
Dallas was knocked out of the playoffs by the Minnesota Wild in six games during the Western Conference First Round. The Stars are set to start their 2026-27 campaign at home against the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 2.
With Seguin back on the ice, all eyes will be on his recovery as the team gets closer to training camp and the start of the regular season.
