Andoni Iraola has expressed his satisfaction with the business conducted by Liverpool during the recent transfer window, stating that the focus now shifts entirely to maximizing the potential within his current group of players.
Liverpool secured four notable signings over the summer, with Bradley Barcola leading the way following his substantial move from Paris St-Germain. The winger is set to be included in the squad for Friday’s Premier League clash against Ipswich Town.
The club also completed the signing of Jeremy Jacquet, a deal that was arranged earlier in the year, while Victor Munoz joined from Osasuna and Ronald Araujo arrived on a temporary basis from Barcelona.
Iraola Trusts Liverpool’s Recruitment Approach
When questioned about the absence of additional cover at right-back or in central midfield, Iraola explained that while those areas were considered, the club ultimately chose not to pursue further additions based on both sporting and financial evaluations.
The Liverpool manager believes the current squad possesses ample quality and that his attention has now turned away from recruitment toward refining the team’s performance on the pitch.
“I am content with what we have. There is significant quality within this group,” Iraola stated. “The responsibility now falls on me and the players to make the most of our resources.”
He added that having the transfer window closed brings a sense of clarity, allowing him to focus fully on the players available to him.
Midfield Options Under Review at Liverpool
Liverpool opted against bringing in a replacement for Curtis Jones following his transfer to Inter Milan. Jones had featured regularly for the club last season, leaving Iraola with Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Wataru Endo as his primary central midfield choices.
Trey Nyoni offers an additional youthful alternative, and Iraola feels the current numbers in that area of the pitch are adequate for the challenges that lie ahead.
“It comes down to me making the correct decisions,” he remarked. “I am working on identifying the best partnerships, and we have a busy stretch of fixtures coming up that will help with that process.”
With a congested schedule approaching, Iraola anticipates that the upcoming matches will provide valuable insight into which combinations work most effectively. For the Spaniard, the emphasis is now firmly on coaching and tactical choices.
Gakpo Stays Put Despite Interest
Iraola also shared his relief that Cody Gakpo remains a Liverpool player after a substantial bid was rejected during the window.
Gakpo has contributed one goal and one assist in the opening two league fixtures, both of which ended level.
The manager praised the forward’s importance to the team and expressed his delight that the club managed to keep hold of him despite outside interest.

Iraola is yet to secure his first victory as Liverpool boss following draws in the opening two matches of the season.
Despite the less-than-ideal start, the manager showed no signs of concern during his latest press conference. He reiterated that the squad is now settled and that his priority is to develop the players at his disposal.
Liverpool were drawn to Iraola partly due to his reputation for enhancing player performance, and the conclusion of the transfer window now provides him with the platform to showcase that ability.
The early matches have highlighted certain limitations in squad depth, though injuries have played a part in that narrative. Even with Jacquet’s arrival factored in, Liverpool recorded the highest net expenditure among Premier League clubs during the summer period.
“My aim is to win. That is what I am here to do,” Iraola said following the recent draws. A positive result at Ipswich would offer some breathing room as he continues to implement his vision at the club.
