Roma preserved their perfect Serie A record by earning a 2-0 win on the road against Torino, with Donyell Malen breaking the deadlock before Niccolò Pisilli sealed the result with a late second goal.
The Giallorossi made the trip to Turin having come from behind to beat Atalanta 2-1, while their Champions League campaign began with a 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce in Istanbul on Thursday. Evan Ndicka, Wesley, and Manu Koné all picked up injuries in that fixture, which opened the door for first starts for Leonardo Balerdi and Nahuel Molina.
Torino were also coping with a number of missing players, as Che Adams, Cesare Casadei, Pietro Pellegri, and Franco Israel were all ruled out. Giovanni Simeone and Saul Coco were not at full fitness either.
Malen puts Roma ahead
Malen had made his debut at this ground back in January 2026 and found the net on that day. He almost scored again after 10 minutes, but his diving header from six yards sailed over the bar following a cross from Mario Hermoso.
The Dutch attacker continued to pose a threat throughout, watching another attempt deflect wide after Matias Soulé took a heavy first touch. Coco then made a last-ditch clearance inside the six-yard box to stop Malen from connecting with Emanuele Lulli’s cut-back after the Roma man had navigated his way between two defenders.
Malen did manage to put the ball in the net in the 22nd minute, but the goal was disallowed because he had begun his run from an offside position.
Torino carved out chances of their own, with Eray Comert shooting over and Rolando Mandragora forcing Mile Svilar into a save from distance. Paulo Dybala also went close, heading wide from 12 yards out.
Torino unable to handle Roma
Roma finally made the breakthrough after Dybala intercepted a poor pass from Lucas Perri at the back and set up the opening for Malen. His first attempt was kept out by Pietro Comuzzo and Perri, but Malen was quick to react and poke the loose ball home from six yards.
Alessio Cacciamani came on after the interval, a player Roma had tried to sign during the summer transfer window. Lulli then went close with a superb volley that just cleared the crossbar after an acrobatic combination with Malen.
Torino nearly found an equaliser when Simeone beat the offside trap to latch onto Daniel Braganca’s through ball. However, Svilar rushed off his line and blocked the attempted chip with his chest.
Molina later tested Perri with a low strike after Marten de Roon won the ball back with a strong challenge, forcing the Torino goalkeeper to tip the shot around the post. Balerdi also produced a crucial intervention to halt Braganca with a perfectly timed tackle.
Pisilli clinches the win for Roma
Roma ultimately wrapped up the three points in stoppage time. Gianluca Mancini kept the ball alive near the by-line, while Dybala was blocked off during the passage of play.
Pisilli capitalised on the chance and drilled an angled shot into the net to make it 2-0. The midfielder went down with cramp straight away, cutting his celebration short as Roma claimed yet another Serie A victory.
