The Minnesota Vikings pulled off an impressive comeback versus the Green Bay Packers, overcoming a 22-17 hole going into the fourth quarter to win 39-22.
Minnesota shut out Green Bay 22-0 in the last quarter, creating a final score that had never happened before in NFL history. The outcome also delivered two Scorigamis on the same day for the league for the first time in seven years, following the Chicago Bears beating the Carolina Panthers 59-37 earlier that day.
Vikings finish historic scorigami
The Vikings hit 39 points after Aaron Jones ran in a fourth-quarter touchdown to give Minnesota a 23-22 lead. Minnesota elected to go for two, and Carson Wentz connected with Justin Jefferson to push the lead to 25-22.
Minnesota tacked on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to arrive at the never-before-seen final score of 39-22. The Vikings’ 22-point outburst totally flipped a game that Green Bay had controlled for the first three quarters.
The Packers ended with 22 points after Trey Smack missed an extra point in the first half. If that kick had gone through, Green Bay would have had 23 points, and the game would have finished 39-23, a score that has happened before and thus would not have been a Scorigami.
NFL Scorigami returns in week 1
The Vikings-Packers result was the third straight season in which the NFL has seen a scorigami during Week 1. There were four such results during the 2025 season, so the league has already hit half that total after just one week of the 2026 campaign.
Two scorigamis on the same day had not occurred since Sept. 29, 2019. The Cleveland Browns beat the Baltimore Ravens 40-25 that day, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Los Angeles Rams 55-40.
Vikings and Packers scorigami history
The Vikings and Packers have now been part of a Scorigami twice in the 2020s. Their earlier one came in Week 1 of the 2020 season, when Green Bay beat Minnesota 43-34. That game was also played on Sept. 13, with Matt LaFleur as the Packers’ coach.
Since that meeting, both teams had been involved in one more scorigami. Green Bay’s latest came in 2025, when the Packers tied the Cowboys 40-40 in Week 4.
Minnesota’s previous scorigami came on Christmas Day in 2020, when the Vikings fell 52-33 to the Saints. Sunday’s 39-22 win therefore added another unusual score to the history of both franchises.
