Newcastle strengthen youth project with Steur signing and Manzambi pursuit

Newcastle confirmed the arrival of 18-year-old midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax after reaching an agreement that could be worth up to €27 million ($31 million). Ajax announced the transfer on Thursday, adding another young talent to the Premier League club’s squad.

The move reflects Newcastle’s focus on building with younger players following several major departures during the current transfer window. The club has reshaped its squad after allowing a number of experienced figures to leave.

Manzambi emerges as transfer target

Newcastle is also reported to be working on a deal for Switzerland international Johan Manzambi. The 20-year-old attracted attention with his performances during Switzerland’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals after previously enjoying a strong campaign with Europa League finalist Freiburg.

Manzambi’s progress was interrupted after he suffered a knee injury in training. Despite that setback, Newcastle remains interested in bringing the midfielder to St. James’ Park.

The club have already added another promising Bundesliga player this week by signing 20-year-old winger Bazoumana Touré from Hoffenheim in a deal reported to be worth £42 million ($56 million).

The squad rebuild continues

Newcastle have funded their recruitment through significant player sales. England winger Anthony Gordon completed a move to Barcelona, while Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali joined Tottenham, with the two transfers generating more than $200 million combined.

Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimarães could also depart, with reports suggesting he is attempting to secure a transfer to Premier League champions Arsenal.

Although Newcastle competed in the Champions League last season, a 12th-place finish in the Premier League means the club will not participate in European competition next season, resulting in a reduction of revenue worth tens of millions of euros.
