Despite the approaching presidential elections, Real Madrid continues to work actively on plans for the upcoming season and remains focused on strengthening the squad. One of the areas attracting particular attention is the left side of defence, where the current options have not fully convinced.
Both Alvaro Carreras and Fran Garcia have struggled to meet expectations. Carreras, who returned to the club, has endured a mixed first campaign, while Garcia has also been unable to establish himself as a long-term solution.
The situation has been further complicated by Ferland Mendy’s ongoing fitness problems. The French defender has repeatedly dealt with injuries, leaving his future at the Santiago Bernabeu uncertain.
Dumfries emerges as a serious target
According to Sky Sports, Real Madrid are interested in signing Denzel Dumfries as they seek additional quality in the full-back positions. The Dutch international has become one of the names under consideration as the Spanish giants evaluate potential additions.
The report states that the club is preparing to submit an opening proposal for the Inter Milan defender. Dumfries is currently preparing to represent the Netherlands at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but his club future is already generating attention.
Madrid views the defender as a possible answer to their current concerns, with the team looking for greater competition and reliability in wide defensive areas ahead of next season.
A release clause could simplify negotiations
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed Real Madrid’s interest in the player. He reports that Dumfries’ contract includes a release clause valued at €25 million.
Romano further notes that Madrid are already familiar with the overall financial conditions surrounding the defender at Inter, which could make a potential deal easier to complete.
Should the Spanish club decide to activate the clause in full, they would not need to enter direct negotiations with Inter Milan. Such a scenario could accelerate the process, especially as the Italian side is keen to retain its defensive options.
Other full-back options remain under consideration
While Dumfries has emerged as a prominent candidate, he is not the only defender being monitored by Real Madrid. The club continues to assess several alternatives as part of their recruitment strategy.
Among the players attracting attention are Ivan Fresneda and Pedro Porro, both of whom remain on Madrid’s radar as they explore ways to strengthen the defensive unit.
With multiple names under review, the club appears determined to address the position before the new campaign begins, although Dumfries is currently one of the leading options being discussed.
