Chelsea has turned down several enquiries regarding defender Josh Acheampong. The 20-year-old, who progressed through the club’s academy system, is regarded as one of the organisation’s most valued young players.
As previously reported, the London side considers Acheampong untouchable in discussions concerning potential departures. The club has no intention of entertaining offers for the defender despite growing interest from elsewhere.
This position underlines the high regard in which he is held at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea continue to view him as an important part of their plans.
Elite company within the squad
Acheampong’s standing at the club places him alongside several of Chelsea’s leading names. He is viewed in the same category as attacking players Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer, as well as midfielder Moises Caicedo.
The designation reflects the confidence Chelsea have in the defender’s potential and future contribution. Although still at an early stage of his senior career, he has earned significant backing from within the club.
That support has remained firm despite his relatively limited involvement in Premier League matches last season.
Limited opportunities but strong backing
During the previous league campaign, Acheampong featured in 17 Premier League games. However, more than half of those appearances came from the bench.
The England Under-21 international was introduced as a substitute on nine occasions, meaning he started only a portion of his matches in the competition.
Even so, Chelsea’s determination to retain him has not weakened, with the club continuing to place substantial value on the defender.
Several clubs keeping watch
Acheampong is contracted to Chelsea until 2029, although it is currently unclear whether the player is interested in seeking opportunities away from Stamford Bridge.
A number of clubs are following developments closely. Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Crystal Palace are all understood to be monitoring the situation as they assess potential future moves.
Bournemouth also remains interested in the defender, having tracked him since last summer. Despite that attention, Chelsea’s position on the player has so far remained unchanged.
