The Los Angeles Kings have announced that Anze Kopitar’s No. 11 jersey will be retired, cementing the Slovenian forward’s legacy with the franchise. Kopitar, who spent two decades with the team, will be honored in a special ceremony.
Alongside the jersey retirement, the club will unveil a statue dedicated to Kopitar. The event is set for Feb. 24, when the Kings face the Montreal Canadiens at home.
Kopitar’s Career Recognized with Top Honor
Kopitar concluded his playing days following the previous season, having remained with Los Angeles for his entire 20-year NHL tenure. He appeared in 1,521 games for the franchise, amassing 1,316 points through 452 goals and 864 assists.
He took on the captaincy in 2016, solidifying his status as one of the most influential players in team history.
The retirement of his jersey and the statue unveiling will serve as a permanent tribute to his contributions, with No. 11 being taken out of rotation for good.
No. 11 Secures Place in Kings Record Books
Kopitar retired as the Kings’ all-time leader in multiple categories, including assists, points, games played, seasons with the club, and game-winning goals.
His 1,316 regular-season points were compiled over 1,521 outings, with his totals split between 452 goals and 864 assists.
Now 38, Kopitar’s durability was matched by his accolades, as he finished his career with two Selke Trophies and three Lady Byng Memorial Trophies.
Kings Star Instrumental in Two Stanley Cup Runs
Kopitar was a key figure in the Kings’ championship victories, helping the team capture the Stanley Cup in 2012 and again in 2014.
His postseason production was equally impressive. In 107 playoff games, he notched 27 goals and 62 assists, totaling 89 points.
With his playing career now in the past, the Kings are set to celebrate Kopitar by retiring No. 11 and unveiling his statue during the Feb. 24 matchup against the Montreal Canadiens.
