Sporting Kansas City emerge as surprise favourites for Salah’s move

Recent reports have linked Mohamed Salah with a possible move to Major League Soccer, but the club now being mentioned most strongly is Sporting Kansas City. The development comes after earlier suggestions that LA Galaxy was well positioned to pursue the Egyptian forward following Gabriel Pec’s departure.

At the time, LA Galaxy appeared to have several advantages, including the financial ability to cover Salah’s wages, an available place in his preferred position, and the appeal of living in Los Angeles. However, newer reports indicate that Sporting Kansas City have moved ahead of other MLS clubs in the race.

The club has previously attempted to attract another global superstar, having pursued Cristiano Ronaldo before his eventual move to Saudi Arabia.

Sporting Kansas City linked with ambitious move

Interest surrounding Salah’s future increased after Egypt’s elimination from the World Cup against Argentina. Despite the growing speculation, there have been no formal negotiations or concrete developments between Sporting Kansas City and the player.

According to the reports, the arrivals of Antoine Griezmann and Robert Lewandowski in MLS could make it easier for the Egyptian captain to consider a move to the league. Even so, he is also attracting proposals from clubs in Saudi Arabia, leaving his next destination uncertain.

Sporting Kansas City has reportedly moved ahead of teams such as Inter Miami, Chicago Fire, and LA Galaxy in the list of potential MLS destinations.

Obstacles remain despite reported interest

A transfer would still face significant challenges. Sporting Kansas City are currently at the bottom of the Western Conference, making it difficult to imagine Salah being persuaded by the club’s present sporting situation.

On the other hand, a switch to MLS would give him the opportunity to face well-known opponents, including Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Müller, Son Heung-min, and Marco Reus, something that could add to the league’s appeal.

MLS insider Tom Bogert, who first reported the possible transfer on social media, has also stated that Salah’s preference is to continue his career either in Europe or in Saudi Arabia rather than move to MLS.

A Sporting project could decide Salah’s future

For Sporting Kansas City to become a realistic destination, the club would first need to offer an attractive football project. Based on its recent performances, that remains a difficult task.

Any arrival would likely see Salah joining a side attempting to rebuild rather than one competing for playoff success or major honours. While the possibility cannot be completely ruled out, the article concludes that a move to Sporting Kansas City currently appears difficult, even if it is not impossible.
