Richarlison has been dropped from Tottenham’s Premier League roster for the initial part of the season after no transfer materialized before the Tuesday deadline.
The Brazilian attacker was widely anticipated to depart Spurs following manager Roberto de Zerbi’s recent admission that the 29-year-old had requested a move. A switch back to his former club Everton seemed plausible, yet the negotiations ultimately collapsed.
Richarlison omitted from Tottenham’s squad list
Tottenham has chosen to exclude Richarlison from their Premier League matchday roster for the first half of the campaign. Reports indicate the forward is not part of De Zerbi’s tactical plans this term, and the player was notified of this decision prior to the transfer cutoff.
Although he remains at the North London club, Richarlison might still exit in the near future, as the transfer windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia are still active.
The striker is now in the last year of his Tottenham contract, casting further doubt on his long-term future with the club after the unsuccessful move ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.
Uncertainty surrounds Tottenham’s forward situation
Richarlison arrived at Tottenham from Everton in the summer of 2022, having earlier played for Watford before his 2018 switch to the Toffees.
He started the current Premier League season in Tottenham’s lineup for the loss to Brentford but was later omitted from De Zerbi’s squad for Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat against Newcastle United.
After that loss, De Zerbi commented on the speculation around the forward, stating: “Richarlison, I am not sure. He has repeatedly mentioned his desire to leave.”
Richarlison’s potential exit from Spurs
Earlier in August, De Zerbi had already conceded that Richarlison’s position was ambiguous. At that time, the Tottenham boss also highlighted the challenge of sourcing a replacement with similar attributes, remarking: “finding another striker like Richarlison is not straightforward.”
Tottenham has since bolstered their attacking lineup by securing Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush on a temporary deal. Marmoush replaced Richarlison in the starting eleven for the Newcastle fixture.
With Richarlison now outside Tottenham’s Premier League framework, a departure remains feasible while clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia can still conduct transfers.
Richarlison’s scoring contributions at Tottenham
Richarlison finished as Tottenham’s top Premier League scorer last season, netting 11 goals across 32 appearances.
The Brazil international also contributed four assists during that period and was instrumental as Tottenham fought to maintain their top-flight status.
Spurs ultimately secured their survival on the final day of the season, with Richarlison playing a pivotal role in their relegation battle.
