Phil Foden has extended his stay at Manchester City by putting pen to paper on a new deal that runs until 2030. The previous agreement was set to expire next summer, but the England international has opted to remain with the club as they start a new chapter under head coach Enzo Maresca.
The 26-year-old has spent his entire senior career at City, having made his first-team debut at age 17 under Pep Guardiola. Since then, he has made 369 appearances and helped the team win six Premier League titles, one Champions League trophy, and two FA Cups.

Foden said staying at Manchester City means everything to him, adding that representing the club has always been his only dream. He also emphasized that wearing the City shirt continues to be a great honor.
The midfielder reflected on the success he has enjoyed during one of the most dominant periods in the club’s history, but insisted the focus is on winning more silverware in the future rather than looking back at past accomplishments.
Foden also welcomed the chance to work again with Maresca, who served as Guardiola’s assistant during City’s Treble-winning 2022-23 campaign. He praised the Italian’s impact, saying he was well respected by the team and popular among the players during that successful season.

Foden’s entire Manchester City career so far came under Guardiola, whose decade-long tenure as manager ended in May. Alongside John Stones and Bernardo Silva, Foden is the club’s most decorated player.
Over the last six seasons, Foden has been one of only three Premier League players to score at least 10 goals in all competitions every year, alongside Mohamed Salah and Ollie Watkins.
His most productive campaign came in the season after City’s Treble, when he recorded 27 goals and 12 assists. However, his attacking numbers have declined over the past two seasons as his role within the team has shifted.
With Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo providing pace from wide areas and Rayan Cherki often operating as the attacking midfielder, Foden was frequently deployed in a deeper position, limiting his chances to score and create decisive opportunities.
England World Cup omission follows difficult season
Foden finished last season with seven goals and five assists in 33 Premier League appearances. In the previous campaign, he also scored seven league goals while adding two assists across 28 matches.
His inconsistent form led to him being left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup in May after making only 23 Premier League starts during the season.
The Professional Footballers’ Association suggested the demanding football schedule had taken a toll on the midfielder, stating he had not performed at the same level he showed two years earlier.
