Goretzka could move to Milan

Lothar Matthäus has voiced his support for Leon Goretzka potentially joining AC Milan this summer. Speaking after Bayern Munich defeated VfB Stuttgart in the DFB Pokal final, the former Germany and Inter star praised the midfielder’s professionalism and contribution during his time in Bavaria.

Matthäus described Goretzka as an exemplary figure and expressed appreciation for the midfielder’s eight-year spell at Bayern. He also suggested that Milan could be the ideal environment for the next stage of the player’s career.

Modric partnership mentioned as future possibility

Discussing a possible transfer to San Siro, Matthäus said he could imagine Goretzka playing alongside Luka Modrić in Milan’s midfield. He added that he believes the German international would be capable of embracing such a challenge in the years ahead.

Goretzka, however, avoided giving any indication about where he could play next season. During the same broadcast, the 31-year-old explained that no final decision has been made regarding his future and that he will choose his next destination only when the timing feels appropriate.

Milan monitoring situation ahead of World Cup

With his Bayern contract expiring this summer, Goretzka is expected to enter the World Cup period as a free agent, increasing interest in his situation across Europe. For Milan, who are looking to strengthen their midfield options and could continue under Massimiliano Allegri, the opportunity to sign an experienced player without a transfer fee could prove appealing.

A midfield pairing involving Goretzka and Modrić would potentially offer Milan a blend of strength, quality on the ball and top-level experience heading into next season.
