Portuguese midfielder Florentino Luís has officially joined Ipswich Town on a five-year contract, departing Burnley. The 26-year-old stays in the Premier League despite Burnley’s drop to the Championship, becoming the latest recruit for the newly promoted side as they gear up for their top-flight comeback.
With 31 league appearances under his belt last season, Florentino caught Ipswich’s eye through his consistent displays in the middle of the park. This transfer also makes history for the club, as he is the first Portuguese player ever to wear the Tractor Boys’ shirt.

With the deal now finalized, Florentino said he is eager to connect with his new teammates, engage with the fanbase, and start training with the group.
Gary O’Neil praises arrival of seasoned midfielder
Ipswich boss Gary O’Neil shared his satisfaction with the signing, calling Florentino a valuable boost to the team’s midfield depth.
O’Neil highlighted that the Portuguese star brings significant Premier League know-how and experience from top European tournaments like the Champions League, which will benefit the squad as they prepare for the season ahead.
The manager also pointed to Florentino’s effectiveness in both phases of play, believing his well-rounded skill set will elevate the team’s central midfield performance.

Premier League return follows Burnley stint
Florentino made the switch to Burnley last summer, but his efforts were not enough to keep the club in the Premier League. Despite the relegation, his performances in 31 league games did not go unnoticed by Ipswich.
The midfielder now continues his career in England’s top division with the promoted side, which has earned its way back to the Premier League for the second time in three seasons.
Ipswich are currently managed by former Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Gary O’Neil, who stepped in after Kieran McKenna left the club following their promotion success.
