Vincent Wagner will occupy the Elversberg dugout for Sunday’s clash with Bayern Munich after his one-match ban was revoked when a referee error was acknowledged.
The coach had initially been dismissed at half-time during Elversberg’s 4-3 win over Borussia Moenchengladbach the previous week. That second booking meant Wagner was set to miss what might be considered the biggest fixture in the club’s history.
However, an appeal succeeded on Friday after referee Martin Petersen conceded that he had erred in showing the second yellow card.

Elversberg has emerged as one of the surprise packages of their first Bundesliga season, despite hailing from a town of roughly 13,000 residents. The club has already beaten former champions Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Their strong start has arranged a matchup with defending champions Bayern Munich, but Wagner had seemed destined to view the match from the stands following his sending-off against Gladbach.
The coach received his second yellow card as he stepped onto the pitch at half-time. That call originally led to a one-game suspension.

The German soccer federation’s tribunal reversed Wagner’s ban after Petersen admitted his decision had been wrong.
Stephan Oberholz, who chairs the federation’s tribunal, stated that the referee accepted Wagner had not been trying to confront him when he came onto the field.
Rather, Petersen recognized that the Elversberg coach had been heading toward his own players. That concession enabled Wagner’s appeal to go through and cleared him to return to the dugout for the Bayern Munich game.
