Curtis Jones set to join Inter Milan in £30m Liverpool deal

Curtis Jones is poised to leave Liverpool for Inter Milan after the Italian side reached an agreement valued at €35m (£30m) for the midfielder.

Liverpool have agreed to receive an upfront fee of €30m (£25.7m), with an additional €5m (£4.3m) tied to performance-based bonuses. The contract also includes a 10% sell-on clause in favor of the Merseyside club.

Jones is scheduled to fly to Italy on Thursday to undergo his medical examination before finalizing the switch.

Jones nears Inter Milan switch

The 25-year-old has been on Inter’s radar for an extended period, with the Serie A champions first attempting to secure his services during the January transfer window. Their initial offer was a loan arrangement with a purchase option, but Liverpool turned it down.

Inter renewed their interest in Jones in recent weeks and have now managed to strike a permanent deal with Liverpool.

This development marks a notable shift from June, when Liverpool rejected a verbal proposal of €25m (£21.7m) from Inter. At that time, the Premier League outfit was holding out for approximately £35m for Jones, who was entering the last year of his contract.

Liverpool accepts £30m package

Liverpool subsequently signaled that a package similar to the £30m Inter paid Tottenham for Djed Spence could be sufficient to finalize negotiations.

Inter have now agreed to those terms, with the overall transfer fee potentially climbing to €35m (£30m) when the add-ons are factored in.

Jones will depart Liverpool with the club maintaining a 10% sell-on clause, ensuring the Reds benefit financially from any future sale of the midfielder.

End of an era at Liverpool

Jones joined Liverpool’s youth system at the age of nine and made his senior debut under Jurgen Klopp in 2019. Over the years, he has accumulated 228 appearances for the club.

Last season, he played in 49 matches across all competitions, but only 18 of those were starts in the Premier League. The midfielder struggled to secure a consistent starting role in Arne Slot’s midfield setup.

With Jones reportedly eager for a new challenge, his transfer to Inter would conclude his lengthy tenure with Liverpool.

Inter continues English recruitment

Should the deal go through, Jones would become the third English player to join Inter during this summer transfer window.

He would follow in the footsteps of John Stones and Spence, adding another English presence to the Serie A champions’ roster ahead of the upcoming campaign.
