Brighton have officially announced the arrival of Canadian forward Promise David from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. The deal is structured as a season-long loan with a mandatory purchase clause set at £22m.
The 25-year-old attacker makes the switch to the Premier League following a prolific stint in Belgium, where he netted 41 goals and added nine assists across 82 outings since joining Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in 2024.
Promise David arrives with a proven scoring pedigree
David’s path to English football has been unconventional. After starting his career in Canada, he played in Croatia and the United States, then spent time with two clubs in Malta’s top division.
His journey continued in Estonia with Nomme Kalju, before he made the move to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in 2024.
At the Belgian club, David quickly became a reliable scorer, registering 41 goals in 82 matches while also setting up nine more for his teammates.
Canadian international adds valuable experience
David has also earned caps for the Canada national team, appearing in four of the country’s five World Cup matches as a substitute.
He found the net in Canada’s 2-1 group-stage loss to Switzerland, adding a World Cup goal to his growing list of achievements.
Brighton’s sporting director, Mike Cave, confirmed that the club had tracked David extensively and praised his physical attributes and scoring instincts.
“Promise is a player we have followed closely for a long time. He is a pure striker with excellent physical qualities and a consistent record of finding the net,” Cave stated.
Brighton looks ahead to a demanding schedule
Cave also highlighted David’s exposure to international football and European competitions as key factors that could help Brighton throughout the campaign.
“His time on the international stage and in European fixtures should serve him well as we face a challenging season,” he added.
The sporting director noted that David is at a pivotal point in his career and expects the move to Brighton to fuel further growth.
“At 25, he is approaching his peak years, and we are eager to see him progress within our setup.”
