Bayern Munich opened their campaign with a resounding 5-1 win over Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena, recovering from a brief second-half setback to dominate. Vincent Kompany’s squad scored four times without reply to seal a convincing result.
Stuttgart had the better early chances and managed to level after the interval, but Michael Olise quickly put Bayern back in front. A Josha Vagnoman own goal extended the lead, before Aleksandar Pavlović and Luis Díaz added the final touches to a comprehensive display.
Bayern Munich dominate the opening period
Stuttgart made a lively start and carved out the first real opening in the fifth minute. A mix-up between Joshua Kimmich and Kim Min-jae let Dženan Pejčinović race through, but the newcomer opted to pass instead of shooting, allowing Dayot Upamecano to clear the danger before a corner was conceded.
The away side kept pushing and nearly broke the deadlock in the 12th minute. A deflected header fell kindly for Tiago Tomás inside the box, but his quick shot bounced off the crossbar. Bayern responded moments later when Michael Olise curled a free-kick onto the woodwork.
The home team took the lead in the 21st minute. Kimmich swung in a corner to the near post, and Upamecano flicked the ball into the net to make it 1-0. They almost doubled their advantage soon after, but Luis Díaz fired straight at Fabian Bredlow after Harry Kane had played him through on goal.
Bredlow kept Stuttgart in the contest with a string of saves. He denied Nathaniel Brown in the 38th minute and dealt with the resulting corner before blocking Konrad Laimer from close range. His fourth stop came just before halftime, gathering an Olise backheel to leave Bayern ahead by a single goal at the break.
Michael Olise and Bayern Munich hit back after Stuttgart level
Bayern controlled the start of the second half, keeping the ball and probing for gaps in the Stuttgart defence. The visitors, however, found an equaliser in the 52nd minute when Jeff Chabot reached a cross and Manuel Neuer made the initial save. Vagnoman reacted fastest to the loose ball and fired past Neuer to make it 1-1.
The joy for Stuttgart lasted only moments. Kimmich collected a poor clearance, advanced forward and picked out Olise, who had time and space to slot home and restore Bayern’s advantage.
Six minutes after conceding, Stuttgart fell further behind. Alphonso Davies delivered what looked like a harmless cross, but Vagnoman slipped on the wet turf and turned the ball into his own net, giving Bayern a 3-1 cushion.
Bayern thought they had added a fourth when Olise finished after a pass from Kane, but the goal was ruled out for a marginal offside. Stuttgart then threatened to pull one back in the 72nd minute, but substitute Ermedin Demirović shot just over the bar.
Bayern Munich finish strongly with four unanswered goals
Bayern continued to press, and Pavlović forced Bredlow into a diving save before the hosts finally scored their fourth in the 82nd minute. Saibari won the ball back, and Kane played a long pass towards Olise, who then set up Pavlović after beating a defender.
Luis Díaz almost added another moments later when Bredlow rushed out to close him down, but the Colombian winger could not keep his effort on target.
Díaz did not have to wait long for his goal. Tom Bischof won possession near the halfway line and launched a quick counter-attack, with Saibari finding Díaz inside the area. This time the winger made no mistake, sliding the ball past Bredlow to complete Bayern’s 5-1 victory.
Bayern will be back in action on Wednesday against VfL Osnabrück in the DFB Pokal, while Stuttgart will aim to bounce back next Friday against 1. FC Köln.
