Bayern edge past Dortmund to claim 12th Supercup crown

Bayern secured a 2-1 victory over Dortmund in a thrilling Supercup encounter, earning their 12th triumph in the competition. Vincent Kompany’s team displayed sharp finishing in the opening period, netting twice before Niko Kovac’s tactical adjustments allowed the hosts to mount a comeback.

Dortmund started brightly, with debutant Konstantinos Karetsas especially lively in the first 20 minutes. Serhou Guirassy registered the match’s first shot before Bayern began to assert their dominance.

Bayern dominate the opening half

Harry Kane attempted an ambitious strike from distance to test Gregor Kobel, and Bayern broke the deadlock just sixty seconds later. Nathaniel Brown marked his debut with a composed finish following excellent work from Michael Olise, who capitalized on Joshua Kimmich’s precise delivery.

Brown had already scored in Bayern’s two previous friendlies and continued his impressive scoring streak. Dortmund found it difficult to respond, with Ramy Bensebaini’s goal disallowed for offside while Kobel produced a fine save to keep out Luis Diaz.

Brown nearly added a second, but Bayern eventually doubled their lead before halftime. Olise delivered a superb solo effort after Jobe Bellingham lost possession in a dangerous position.

The Frenchman had been linked with a move to Real Madrid earlier in the transfer window and once again showcased his talent by recording a goal and an assist in the first 45 minutes.

Dortmund respond after the interval

Kovac made several changes during the break, with Giannis Konstantelias replacing 18-year-old Italian Samuele Inácio and Joey Veerman later making his Dortmund debut. Konstantelias helped create chances, but Manuel Neuer made an outstanding reaction save to deny Karetsas.

Kovac had utilized all his substitutions before the 75th minute, and one of those changes reignited Dortmund’s hopes. Fabio Silva, who had come on for Guirassy, pulled a goal back with 15 minutes remaining.

The move started when Konstantelias intercepted a poor pass from Jonathan Tah before Daniel Svensson set up Silva, who finished clinically. Five minutes later, Ismael Saibari replaced Brown to make his official debut.

Dortmund’s goal briefly shifted the momentum, but Bayern soon regained control. Kobel was forced to save efforts from Aleksander Pavlovic and Olise, while Silva could only manage a weak header at the other end.

Bayern hold firm to lift the Super Cup

Dortmund nearly found an equalizer when Jobe Bellingham almost capitalized on a mistake from Neuer. The drama escalated in the closing stages when Bensebaini was sent off for a challenge on Saibari just before five minutes of added time were announced.

Both teams had opportunities to alter the outcome, with Olise and Maximilian Beier coming close. Bayern, however, held on to secure the victory and claim the Supercup for the 12th time.

The Bavarians have now won both editions since the competition was renamed in honor of Franz Beckenbauer. Bayern will begin their Bundesliga campaign at home against Stuttgart on Friday, while Dortmund will host HSV next weekend.
