Barcelona have wrapped up the acquisition of Croatian shot-stopper Dominik Livakovic from Fenerbahce. The 31-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Spanish champions, which will see him remain at the club until 30 June 2030.
“FC Barcelona and Fenerbahçe SK have reached an agreement for the transfer of Dominik Livakovic. The Croatian goalkeeper signs for four seasons, until 30 June 2030,” the Catalan outfit confirmed in a short statement.
Dominik Livakovic seals Barcelona switch
Talks over Livakovic’s move gained momentum over the last week, with the initial strategy reportedly being for Barcelona to secure the keeper and then loan him out right away.
That course of action was thought to allow the Croatian to link up with the Barcelona squad next year, once Wojciech Szczesny’s deal had ended. However, the club altered its approach in the final days of the window.
Livakovic landed in Catalonia earlier this week to pass his medical and take care of the necessary paperwork for the transfer. His arrival has now been made official.
Barcelona lock down Croatian keeper through 2030
This move sees Livakovic return to La Liga after he spent the opening half of the previous campaign on loan at Girona. The goalkeeper also turned heads during the 2026 FIFA World Cup prior to finalizing his switch to Barcelona.
While the club’s announcement did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, the fee is understood to be €2 million upfront, with an additional €2 million possible through performance-based bonuses.
The four-year contract means Livakovic is now committed to Barcelona until the summer of 2030.
Livakovic to serve as backup option at Barcelona
Livakovic is slated to start his Barcelona stint as the understudy to Joan Garcia. The Croatian will thus offer an experienced backup choice within the squad following his move from Fenerbahce.
Szczesny, on the other hand, is expected to stay at Barcelona and assume the role of third-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming season. The arrival of Livakovic shifts the club’s earlier intentions for the Croatian, who was initially tipped to spend the season out on loan.
