Atlanta made a strong statement on Thursday night, defeating Green Bay 35-14 and revealing weaknesses for the Packers on both offense and defense. The Falcons controlled every phase, with Bijan Robinson and Drake London delivering standout performances.
Atlanta gained 498 yards, while Green Bay rushed for only 17 yards. The Falcons also blocked a field-goal attempt that directly resulted in a touchdown, helping them build a 17-7 halftime lead and push it to 24-7 after three quarters.
Green Bay trimmed the deficit to 10 points in the fourth quarter, but Atlanta answered with its sixth scoring drive and then converted a two-point attempt to seal the game. The loss was the Packers’ first in a home opener since 2012.
Bijan Robinson powers Atlanta’s offense
Robinson was the driving force behind Atlanta’s offensive dominance, rushing for 194 yards and two touchdowns. His 55-yard run during the Falcons’ third series helped move Atlanta into the red zone for the first time, and his production opened up opportunities for the passing game.
Drake London was just as impactful, catching nine passes for 194 yards. His 68-yard catch and run was one of the defensive breakdowns that helped Atlanta put the game away.
Michael Penix Jr. also showed promise after returning to action for the first time in 10 months. He struggled early, completing four of his first 11 attempts and throwing an interception on Atlanta’s opening series, but eventually settled down.
Penix finished with 256 passing yards and a touchdown on 18 of 25 passing attempts. With Robinson controlling the ground game, Penix was able to find more opportunities as Atlanta’s offense gained momentum.
Packers offense struggles without Josh Jacobs
Green Bay’s problems were not limited to its offense, although that unit drew much of the criticism. Jordan Love finished with 312 passing yards, completing 28 of 53 attempts, but the Packers’ inability to run the ball made his task considerably harder.
Without Josh Jacobs, Green Bay’s rushing attack again failed to provide much support. Atlanta repeatedly forced the Packers into obvious passing situations on third down, while the absence of Jayden Reed and two starting offensive linemen further complicated matters.
The Packers did find production through Matthew Golden, who caught five passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. His 45-yard reception helped set up Green Bay’s first score, while Christian Watson added seven catches for 96 yards and a touchdown on 10 targets.
Green Bay’s special teams also contributed to the defeat. A blocked field goal late in the first half denied the Packers a chance to tie the game and was followed by an Atlanta scoring drive that shifted the momentum.
Green Bay defense exposes more problems
The Packers’ defensive performance added to the concerns. Green Bay surrendered big plays, including London’s 68-yard reception and run, while Atlanta consistently moved the ball throughout the night.
The Packers are now 1-6 without Micah Parsons, who remains on the reserve/PUP list. Thursday’s defeat therefore highlighted issues across the entire team rather than being simply an offensive failure.
With the Packers now 1-2, the result could prompt general manager Brian Gutekunst to explore ways to strengthen the offense before the team’s next game. One possibility mentioned is whether the Giants could be interested in a trade involving former 1,000-yard running back Najee Harris.
For Atlanta, the performance offered plenty of encouragement. The Falcons are also 1-2, but Penix’s return, Robinson’s dominance, and London’s production gave the team a convincing road victory.

Robinson’s performance was another reminder of what makes him such a dangerous player. His combination of elusiveness, power, and speed was on full display as he repeatedly broke through the Packers’ defense.
The performance also created the conditions for Penix and London to thrive, showing how effective Atlanta’s offense can be when Robinson establishes control of the game.
The Falcons have been looking for greater stability at quarterback, and Penix’s performance after his long absence provided a reason for optimism. Thursday night ultimately belonged to Atlanta, with Robinson leading an offense that overwhelmed Green Bay from start to finish.
