Kylian Mbappé has reaffirmed his commitment to helping Real Madrid get out of this season in the best spot possible.
The Frenchman, who is currently on international duty with the France national team, has been the subject of criticism in recent times from Madrid fans and journalists.
Despite being the club’s leading goalscorer and attacker, Mbappé’s influence has waned in recent weeks. He has also battled injury, which has kept him out of the picture in some of those weeks. This has led to comments about the forward saving himself for France at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
These questions were posed to the former Paris Saint-Germain forward at France’s international camp in an interview with French sports outlet Telefoot.
“In Spain, they’re a little worried that I won’t play. They think I’ll go straight to the World Cup,” he began.
“The best way to arrive at the World Cup in top form is to win everything with Real Madrid.”
He continued: “We’re still in contention in the two remaining competitions, LaLiga and the Champions League.
“We’re going to play Bayern, who I think are the team in the best form in Europe right now. But if there’s one team that can beat that sort of side, it’s Real Madrid.”
Mbappé is no stranger to criticism, as he faced the same at PSG and from some sections of the France national team support and media coverage. However, his time at Madrid has been less scrutinised.
The question of his adaptation to the Spanish side was also posed to the one-time Kopa Trophy winner.
“People are very passionate. For them, Real Madrid is a religion,” he began. “Anything to do with the club and me creates a buzz that gets everyone talking and speculating. Sometimes rightly so, sometimes not.
“At Real Madrid, everyone has been criticized—Cristiano Ronaldo, everyone. I don’t see why I should be spared that sort of criticism.”
He added: “You have to deal with the criticism. Stay calm, focus on the work, and have the confidence to believe that you can improve the situation on the pitch.”
Mbappé played a small role in France’s outing against Colombia after a brilliant outing against Brazil. The striker came on for the last 10 minutes of regular time as Les Blues beat the South Americans 3 – 1. He is now preparing to return to Real Madrid and fulfill his promise to help them fight for the other trophies left.
