Caicedo comments deepen Chelsea tension amid Madrid links

Midfielder Moises Caicedo has added to Liam Rosenior’s growing concerns at Chelsea FC after declining to rule out a potential future move to Real Madrid.

Caicedo’s comments raise eyebrows

The £115m signing stressed that he remains focused on his current club, yet admitted football can be unpredictable when questioned about Madrid. Speaking to Spanish outlet AS, the 24-year-old suggested he is not actively considering leaving London but stopped short of dismissing the idea entirely.

He reiterated that he is under contract and wants to continue playing, adding that the future remains uncertain. While not a direct invitation, the timing of his remarks has drawn attention given recent events at the club.

Fernandez sanction sets precedent

Rosenior recently disciplined Enzo Fernandez for comments about wanting to live in Madrid, ruling him out of matches against Port Vale and Manchester City. The manager described the midfielder’s remarks as crossing a boundary tied to the club’s values.

Despite the punishment, Rosenior made clear his respect for Fernandez, emphasising that the decision was collective and that the player still has a role moving forward. He framed the action as necessary to uphold standards within a club built on success.

Cucurella meeting after criticism

Rosenior also addressed remarks made by Marc Cucurella, who had voiced concerns over Chelsea’s recruitment strategy following their Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain. The defender suggested the focus on younger signings could hinder immediate success and pointed to a lack of experience in high-pressure moments.

The manager revealed he held a half-hour discussion with Cucurella, encouraging players to bring concerns internally rather than airing them publicly. He described the conversation as positive, stressing that the defender remains committed and believes in the club’s direction.

Rosenior added that building trust takes time, noting he has only been in charge for a short period, but insisted that open communication is key as Chelsea aim to improve.
