The Toronto Blue Jays have encountered another issue in their starting rotation, as Shane Bieber has been moved to the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in the teres major muscle of his throwing shoulder.
This decision comes at a vital moment in the season, with Toronto entering Tuesday only two games behind the third and final American League wild-card spot. Chad Dallas has been brought up from Triple-A to fill Bieber’s spot on the active roster.

Manager John Schneider stated that Bieber will avoid throwing for a couple of weeks, though the team remains optimistic that the experienced right-hander can make it back before the season concludes.
Bieber, aged 31 and a former Cy Young recipient, had displayed better performance in his latest starts despite facing difficulties throughout the year. His season only started in late June because of elbow inflammation.
The right-hander played a key role in Toronto’s push to the pennant last season after joining from the Guardians in a 2025 trade deadline deal. He is also scheduled to become a free agent.

Toronto’s pitching staff has been a major letdown during the 2026 season, with injuries and uneven performances repeatedly disturbing the rotation.
Dylan Cease has stepped up as an ace and an American League Cy Young contender, but the pitchers behind him have had trouble staying healthy or delivering steady results. The Blue Jays have already used 18 different starters this season, not counting openers.
Starting pitchers other than Cease have posted a combined 4.87 ERA. Toronto has also been missing José Berríos and Bowden Francis, both of whom are recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Trey Yesavage, who started the season as a preseason American League Rookie of the Year candidate, has been held to 93⅔ innings. With Bieber now on the injured list, Toronto has four healthy starters and seven pitchers on the IL.
