Peyton Krebs and the Buffalo Sabres have finalized a new four-year contract worth $18 million, removing the need for the two sides to proceed with arbitration. The deal carries an average annual value of $4.5 million.
The 25-year-old forward had been a restricted free agent and filed for salary arbitration on July 5. Although a hearing had been expected, no date for those proceedings was ever announced before the agreement was completed.
Career-best campaign earns reward
Krebs is coming off the most productive regular season of his NHL career. He recorded 39 points across all 82 games, finishing with 12 goals and 27 assists while establishing a new personal best.
He also contributed during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, collecting six points in 13 appearances. His postseason totals included two goals and four assists, adding to the strong overall season that preceded his new contract.
Journey from Vegas to Buffalo
Originally selected by the Vegas Golden Knights with the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft, Krebs has continued to build his experience at the NHL level with both Vegas and Buffalo.
Across 378 regular-season games, he has accumulated 133 points, scoring 42 goals and adding 91 assists during his time with the two organizations.
Trade that reshaped his career
Krebs became a member of the Sabres as part of the trade completed on Nov. 4, 2021, that sent Jack Eichel to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Since arriving in Buffalo, the forward has continued his development, and his latest contract ensures he will remain with the Sabres after reaching a long-term agreement before arbitration.
