Claude Giroux will continue his career with the Ottawa Senators after reaching an agreement on a fresh contract. According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the deal was finalized on Monday, although the financial details were not immediately disclosed.
The 38-year-old had the opportunity to test free agency before ultimately deciding to remain in Ottawa, where he has spent the past four seasons. During that stretch, the Senators secured playoff appearances in each of the last two campaigns.
Journey from Philadelphia to Ottawa
Originally from Hearst, Ontario, Giroux built the majority of his NHL career with the Philadelphia Flyers. The organization selected him with the 22nd overall pick in the 2006 NHL Draft, and he later served as the club’s captain before being traded to the Florida Panthers at the 2022 trade deadline.
Following that move, Giroux signed with Ottawa and has since become an experienced presence for the franchise. His latest contract ensures he will continue wearing a Senators sweater beyond this offseason.
Solid production and remarkable career totals
During the most recent season, Giroux appeared in all 82 regular-season games, recording 14 goals and 49 points. His durability allowed him to play every game on the schedule while continuing to contribute offensively.
Across his NHL career, the veteran has played 1,345 games, producing 379 goals and 1,165 points, adding to a résumé built over many years in the league.
Senators continue reshaping their roster
Ottawa’s offseason has featured significant changes following the departure of captain Brady Tkachuk, who was traded to the Florida Panthers in June. The organization has since made additional moves to reshape its forward group.
William Eklund arrived in a trade with the San Jose Sharks to help replace Tkachuk’s offensive production, while Andre Burakovsky was acquired from the Blackhawks to add further veteran experience to the team’s attack.
