Venezia, Frosinone and Monza secure return to Serie A

Three well-known clubs will be back among Italy’s elite next season after Venezia, Frosinone, and Monza completed successful promotion campaigns from Serie B.

Venezia and Frosinone spent the entire season battling for the top positions and ultimately avoided the uncertainty of the promotion playoffs. The race for first place remained tight until the very end, with Venezia finishing only one point ahead of their closest challengers. Guided by Giovanni Stroppa, a coach known for his expertise in achieving promotion, the Venetian side immediately bounced back to the top division after their relegation in the 2024/25 campaign.

Frosinone also secured automatic advancement following an impressive year. Their attacking approach and steady performances gradually established them as one of the strongest teams in the league. After narrowly escaping consecutive relegations in previous seasons, the club exceeded expectations under Massimiliano Alvini. The coach now prepares for a second experience in Serie A after his brief spell with Cremonese in 2023, which lasted only 18 matches.

Monza prevail through the playoffs

Unlike Venezia and Frosinone, Monza was unable to finish inside the top two and had to take the longer route to promotion. The Brianzoli successfully navigated the postseason, overcoming both Juve Stabia and Catanzaro to secure their place in Serie A. The final proved particularly difficult, but they managed to achieve their objective.

The club has undergone significant changes off the pitch in recent months. Last July, ownership passed from the Berlusconi family to the American investment group Beckett Layne Ventures. On the sidelines, Monza are led by Paolo Bianco, whose coaching background includes working alongside Roberto De Zerbi in Ukraine and Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus before taking charge of his own team.

Like Venezia, Monza returns to the top flight after spending only one season away from Serie A.

Changes among Italy’s top-flight clubs

The promoted trio will replace Cremonese, Pisa, and Hellas Verona. Cremonese and Pisa were unable to extend their stay beyond a single season in the top division, while Verona’s relegation ends a seven-year run in Serie A.

Even before the new campaign begins, Venezia have already started strengthening their squad. The club completed the signing of Toma Basic, previously of Lazio, on a free transfer as preparations for life back in the top tier continue.
