Rodrigo Mora admits that “football is crazy” after scoring his third consecutive goal in Serie A with Roma and looks forward with enthusiasm to a possible debut with the Portugal senior national team, even without his “idol” Cristiano Ronaldo.
The nineteen-year-old talent was an important summer investment for Roma, which purchased him from Porto for 25 million euros, effectively securing only half of his contract.
It took some time before he was able to make his mark with the giallorossi shirt, but this evening he found the net in the 3-0 victory against Sassuolo, hitting his third consecutive goal in as many Serie A matches.
Rodrigo Mora pleased with his journey at Roma
“It was a great pass from Malen, I tried to shoot and I was happy to score another important goal, so Roma keeps pushing and winning,” Mora told Sky Sport Italia.
The young Portuguese player has now collected four goals in nine Serie A appearances, plus two assists in four Champions League outings under the guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini.
“When I arrived here, I thought we were a strong team. Every time I trained, I thought we were a great group. We are showing it on the pitch and we must continue on this path.”
Mora seems to have found the right rhythm in the last month. After initially struggling to earn a starting spot, in recent weeks he has managed to express his full potential.
“Football is crazy, because one day you don’t play and the next you are on the pitch. I was ready and now I have scored for the third consecutive match. It is important to always be ready when your moment comes.”
Rodrigo Mora and Portugal: Cristiano Ronaldo remains his idol
Mora has also received a call-up to the Portugal senior national team, which will now have to do without Cristiano Ronaldo, who has retired from international duty.
“It is a moment of great pride for me and for my family. It is always a pleasure to play for Portugal. Now Cristiano is no longer there, but he is an idol for everyone in Portugal, including me. I learned a lot when I arrived in the national team and I am truly happy to be part of it.”
