Harry Kane extended his rich run against RB Leipzig as Bayern Munich secured a place in the German Cup semi-finals, reaching that stage for the first time in six years.
The forward put the hosts ahead from twelve yards, registering his sixth strike across four matches in the competition and lifting his overall return in Bavaria to 39 goals from 34 outings, the best record among players in Europe’s five major leagues.
That penalty also pushed his personal output versus Leipzig this campaign to five, a sequence that includes a three-goal display earlier in the season.
Early scare and sustained pressure
The evening did not begin comfortably for the home side, as Leipzig believed they had struck inside four minutes through Christoph Baumgartner, only for video review to rule the effort out due to an offside position.
Chances followed at both ends, with Castello Lukeba blocking a Kane attempt on the line after Maarten Vandevoordt had intervened, before Ridle Baku dealt with a Joshua Kimmich corner.
Bayern’s momentum continued as the visiting goalkeeper thwarted Aleksandar Pavlovic, Kane, and Serge Gnabry during a spell of sustained pressure.
Diaz seals progress
The breakthrough arrived in 64 minutes when Vandevoordt fouled Josip Stanisic, allowing Kane to convert from the spot and finally separate the sides.
Only four minutes later, former Liverpool winger Luis Diaz provided the decisive blow, outmuscling Willi Orban to finish Michael Olise’s assist for his 19th goal of the campaign.
That double ensured Bayern advanced, rewarding their persistence after a demanding contest against a stubborn opponent.
