Jack Grealish has revealed that a surgical procedure has brought his season to a premature close, following a stress-related problem in his foot. The midfielder confirmed the operation through a social media message, expressing disappointment at how the campaign concluded.
The issue occurred on 18 January while he was featuring for Everton in a narrow away victory against Aston Villa, a side he previously represented. That match proved to be his final appearance before treatment became unavoidable.
At the time of the injury, the 30-year-old was spending the year at Goodison Park on a temporary deal from Manchester City. His time on Merseyside had included regular involvement across competitions.
Despite the frustration, Grealish indicated that the procedure was successful and said his attention has now shifted entirely towards recovery and rehabilitation.
Productive spell on loan at Goodison Park
Before the injury, Grealish had played 22 matches in total for Everton during the campaign. His contributions included two goals along with six assists, underlining his influence in midfield and attack.
Those performances led to growing talk that he might re-enter international contention. Observers believed his form could reopen the door to England selection ahead of the World Cup taking place this summer.
His last outing for the national side came in October 2024, when he featured under interim coach Lee Carsley. Since then, he had been aiming to rebuild momentum through consistent club football.
The injury, however, has effectively ruled out any chance of a place in the upcoming tournament squad, ending that particular ambition for now.
Career context and message to supporters
Grealish joined Manchester City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a then-record domestic transfer fee of £100 million. During his spell at the Etihad Stadium, he collected major honours, including three league titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup.
More recently, his standing at City declined. Last season he was limited to seven starts in league competition and was omitted from the travelling group for the Club World Cup held in the United States.
That situation paved the way for his temporary switch to Everton, where he quickly became a popular figure. In his statement, Grealish praised the backing he has received from club employees, fellow players, and supporters.
He added that he plans to remain close to the squad while injured and is determined to return in improved condition, thanking fans for their encouragement during a difficult moment.
