Fernandes reflects after reaching 100 goals for Manchester United

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes underlined his importance once again in the Premier League clash with Chelsea. The Portuguese midfielder opened the scoring in the 14th minute, netting his 100th goal for the club in what was his 296th appearance. His strike set the tone for the game, with Casemiro adding a second before Chelsea pulled one back late in the contest.

Fernandes’ numbers put him alongside some of the league’s most productive midfielders, drawing comparisons with legendary figures such as Frank Lampard. For United supporters, he has consistently been the standout performer during a difficult period, carrying responsibility on and off the pitch.

Bruno on his mindset

Known for his intensity and willingness to shoulder blame when results do not go United’s way, Fernandes spoke about his desire to keep driving the team forward. He described his motivation as being rooted in rediscovering the version of himself that first made him successful.

“I just want to enjoy playing football,” he explained. “Even the frustration I feel on the pitch, I enjoy that because it is part of me. That will never change. I know I must handle people differently, and I can do that, but I need to feel that spark.”

He added that returning to that spirit reminded him of playing football as a child with his cousins, emphasising the joy and authenticity that continues to fuel him.

Praise from Amorim

United manager Ruben Amorim also gave recognition to his captain and fellow Portuguese international. After the win, he highlighted Fernandes’ leadership and impact in reaching such a milestone as a midfielder.

“He has a great spirit, he is our captain and scored as a midfielder, so I am really happy,” Amorim said. He added that outside criticism of the team was often valid, but on this occasion the result gave them reason to enjoy the moment.
