Everton has been made available for purchase by The Friedkin Group, with the American proprietors ready to contemplate a total departure should a suitable buyer step forward. The group, headed by billionaire Dan Friedkin, had earlier examined possibilities for outside investment but is now willing to sell a controlling share in the Premier League outfit.
Even though a change of ownership is being considered, TFG has committed to keep supplying the financial support required to back Everton while the process continues.
The Everton sale comes after financial stabilisation
The Friedkin Group stated it was looking into fresh investment possibilities, including the potential sale of a controlling stake in the club. The choice follows the owners tackling Everton’s financial instability and helping to ensure the completion of the club’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
TFG recognised that Everton encountered major challenges both on and off the field when the group assumed control. Its first priority was to deliver the investment and stability needed to safeguard the club’s future.
Now that this base has been set, the owners feel the moment has arrived to examine the next phase of Everton’s growth. Nevertheless, the group emphasised that any prospective buyer would have to satisfy its standards for the club’s future stewardship.
Friedkin Group sets conditions for Everton takeover
In its official statement, TFG made it clear that locating the right owner would stay at the heart of the process. The group said it would only assess approaches from parties it firmly believed could move Everton forward and build on the progress already achieved.
The American owners also restated their dedication to backing the team and its wider community while reviewing the options available. Their financial support is anticipated to carry on throughout the process, with the emphasis staying on delivering success on the pitch.
TFG confirmed that it would not issue further public remarks while the work was underway. Financial advisory firm Moelis & Company has been brought in to help the group with its plans.
Everton’s ownership change comes less than two years after the takeover
The Friedkin Group finalised its takeover of Everton in December 2024, ending Farhad Moshiri’s chaotic spell as owner. The choice to investigate a possible sale therefore arrives less than two years after the American group bought the Merseyside club.
Although TFG had already been pursuing outside investment, its readiness to consider selling a controlling stake represents a wider option for the club’s ownership. Any change will hinge on whether a suitable party comes forward to satisfy the group’s standards.
At present, Everton’s owners have signalled that their backing will stay in place as they evaluate the club’s next steps.
