Djed Spence has officially become an Inter player, finalizing his move from Tottenham for a package worth €35m, with performance-based extras. The England defender has put pen to paper on a contract with the Nerazzurri that runs through June 2031.
Spence is the second English player to join Inter this summer, following John Stones, who signed as a free agent after leaving Manchester City and is also expected to feature at the 2026 World Cup.
The 26-year-old touched down in Milan on Thursday night and underwent his medical checks on Friday. Both Inter’s staff and the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) conducted the examinations, and everything came back clear.
Inter confirm Spence arrival from Tottenham
After passing the medicals without any issues, Spence finalized his contract with Inter, which extends until the summer of 2031. Reports indicate he will earn around €2.5m per year, plus incentives tied to his performances.
Tottenham are set to receive approximately €31.5m as a fixed fee for the defender, with an additional €3.5m possible through add-ons. The London outfit has also negotiated a 10 per cent sell-on clause should Spence be transferred in the future.
This move marks Spence’s return to Italian football, having previously spent a loan spell at Genoa in 2024 before heading back to Tottenham.
Spence set to fill right-back role at Inter
Spence celebrated his 26th birthday just days ago and gives Inter tactical flexibility, as he is comfortable on both flanks of the defense. That versatility was a key factor in the club’s decision to pursue him.
The Nerazzurri view the English international as the natural replacement for Denzel Dumfries on the right side, following the Dutchman’s departure to Real Madrid.
Spence now embarks on his new journey with Inter, having wrapped up the transfer from Tottenham and signed a long-term deal that secures his future at the club until 2031.
