Crystal Palace has finalized a major deal to bring centre-forward Jorgen Strand Larsen to Selhurst Park from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The agreement, which could rise to £48 million, represents the biggest outlay in the club’s history.
The 25-year-old Norway international has committed to a four-and-a-half-year contract and will take the number 22 shirt with the Eagles.
Mateta stays as Milan withdraw interest
Palace accelerated their pursuit of attacking reinforcements while Jean-Philippe Mateta appeared close to leaving south London.
The French striker had been in discussions over a £30 million move to AC Milan and underwent an initial check on Sunday, followed by further examinations the next day.
Despite those steps, the Serie A side has now abandoned the proposed switch, meaning the 28-year-old will remain with Palace and compete alongside the new arrival.
Parish welcomes new forward to Selhurst Park
Chairman Steve Parish expressed his satisfaction after the club completed the deal for Strand Larsen.
He said Palace were pleased that the striker opted to continue his career with the Eagles and backed him to make a long-term impact.
Parish added that the club believes the forward will become an important contributor in the seasons ahead.
Fresh start after difficult campaign at Wolves
The move offers Strand Larsen an opportunity to reset following a challenging year in the Premier League.
He has found the net only once in 22 league appearances during a tough season for Wolves, who currently sit at the foot of the table.
Palace will be hoping he can rediscover the sharpness that previously saw him score 14 times in 35 matches before his loan spell from Celta Vigo was turned into a permanent stay.
Player targets impact and intensity
Strand Larsen said he was eager to begin his new chapter in south London.
The striker explained that joining Palace had been an ambition for some time and outlined his desire to contribute enthusiasm and finishing ability.
He could be in contention for his first appearance on Sunday, when Palace travels to face Brighton in the Premier League.
Late setback in McNeil negotiations
Palace also attempted to bolster their wide options before the deadline.
Talks were held over a loan with an option to buy for Everton winger Dwight McNeil.
That transaction ultimately collapsed after the required documents were not finalised before time ran out.
