Como overturned an early deficit to thrash Genoa 4-1 in Serie A, with goals from Martin Baturina, Nico Paz, and a double from Assane Diao cancelling out Milutin Osmajic‘s opener.
The Lariani entered this fixture full of confidence following their impressive 2-1 victory over Napoli on the road. New signings Moise Kean and Robert Sanchez were named among the substitutes, ready to make their debuts for the club. The only absentee was Jayden Addai, who remained sidelined with an injury.
Genoa, on the other hand, were desperate to bounce back after consecutive losses to Napoli and Lazio, both without finding the net. Their injury list included Lorenzo Venturino, Joi Nuredini, Hamed Traore, and Elias Havel, while Djibril Sow and Osmajic were handed their first starts of the campaign.
Como recover after Genoa’s early breakthrough
Como started brightly and carved out the first real chances, with Justin Bijlow forced into action to tip a Yan Couto effort around the post before denying Nico Paz from distance. Yet it was Genoa who struck first against the run of play.
Lorenzo Colombo exploited space down the left flank, bypassing Como’s high defensive line before cutting the ball back across the box. Osmajic managed to shake off Trevoh Chalobah and slot home from close range to give the hosts a shock lead.
Como’s response was swift and clinical. Baturina collected possession well outside the area and unleashed a powerful right-footed drive that nestled into the far bottom corner, levelling the score.
The visitors then took control when Leo Ostigard’s glancing header failed to clear an Alex Valle cross. The ball dropped kindly for Diao at the far post, who kept his volley low and precise to put Como ahead.
Nico Paz extends Como’s advantage to 3-1
Como dominated possession and doubled their lead just before the interval. After a patient spell of passing, Yan Couto delivered a delicate chip over the defence, finding Nico Paz in space.
Paz controlled superbly with his left foot, let the ball bounce once, and then smashed a right-footed effort into the near top corner, making it 3-1.
Genoa tried to mount a response after the restart, with Tasos Douvikas heading just over the crossbar before making way for debutant Kean. Kingsley Ehizibue also came on for his first appearance in a Genoa shirt.
Como nearly added a fourth when Paz intercepted a weak clearance on the edge of the box and rattled the post with a first-time strike.
Assane Diao seals emphatic 4-1 triumph for Como
Kean wasted little time making an impact on his debut, linking up with Maxence Caqueret in midfield before driving forward. Showing unselfishness, he rolled the ball across to Diao, who finished with a composed angled shot to complete his brace.
Junior Messias almost produced a moment of magic for Genoa in the dying seconds, but his back-heel flick from a corner drifted narrowly wide of the post.
The result leaves Genoa winless after their opening three Serie A matches, while Como celebrate a resounding 4-1 victory, having fully turned the match around after Osmajic’s early strike.
