Bayern Munich ended a two-match winless streak in dominant style, defeating RB Leipzig 6-1 at the Allianz Arena. Luis Diaz netted a hat-trick, and Harry Kane celebrated his 100th Bundesliga appearance with a goal and two assists, helping Vincent Kompany’s team reclaim top spot before Freiburg’s clash with Bayer Leverkusen.
The outcome was a frustrating blow for Leipzig, who had found the net six times against Eintracht Frankfurt in their previous fixture. Bayern, in contrast, produced a powerful attacking display and maintained their impressive home record against the visitors.
Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig: Diaz sparks first-half surge
Diaz broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, latching onto Joshua Kimmich’s superb chipped pass. The Colombian slotted home confidently to score in successive games, alleviating doubts about his recent form. He then switched to creator, helping Bayern sustain their offensive rhythm.
Aleksandar Pavlovic increased the hosts’ lead with a calm finish after being rested for the match against Viking FK. Michael Olise added a third ten minutes later, exploiting space in the box after Kane picked out the unmarked playmaker. The Frenchman celebrated passionately following criticism over his Champions League red card.
Leipzig boss Martin Demichelis made two half-time substitutions to try to stem the damage on his return to the Allianz Arena. But Bayern picked up right where they left off, with Diaz netting his second just three minutes after the break, again assisted by Kane.
Harry Kane scores in his 100th Bundesliga appearance
Kane got his name on the scoresheet after a slick Bayern move, with Nathaniel Brown providing his first assist for the club. The England captain was then replaced along with three teammates with about 30 minutes left, having racked up a goal and two assists in his milestone game.
Diaz sealed his hat-trick with a brilliant strike from the edge of the area after goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt had made several saves in the second half. One of those stops kept out substitute Tom Bischof, but Leipzig conceded again from the ensuing corner sequence.
Bayern nearly scored a seventh in consecutive home matches, but Serge Gnabry failed to convert from close range. Kompany also gave Sacha Boey his first minutes of the season, with the French defender staying at the club despite Bayern’s attempts to find him a new team before the transfer window shut.
RB Leipzig suffers another heavy defeat against Bayern
Leipzig grabbed a late consolation through Andrija Maksimovic, who scored his first Bundesliga goal in stoppage time. He had also netted Leipzig’s goal in their 4-1 loss to Como, but his late effort did little to alter the result of another tough trip to Munich.
The loss extended Leipzig’s poor record at the Allianz Arena. After conceding 11 goals to Bayern in their Bundesliga meetings last season, they have now endured another heavy defeat, having let in at least five goals in each of their last three league visits to the stadium.
Bayern will next host Arsenal, last season’s Champions League finalists, on Wednesday night. Leipzig face another major test when they travel to the Santiago BernabĂ©u to take on Real Madrid.
