England captain Harry Kane is nearing the end of his time with Bayern Munich, and the club is making moves to extend his contract.
Kane had a release clause that was active until January 2026, which could have seen him exit the club at the end of the season. It was not activated by the player or by his suitors, however, which ensured that Bayern would have him until 2027, the last year of his contract.
However, speculation over his future has not slowed down, with several clubs in Europe all being mentioned alongside his name in the transfer rumor mills. Talks of interest from Saudi Arabia have also surfaced, and this has forced Bayern to make a move.
Though unofficial, they have done so through their honorary president, legendary Bayern Munich and German football figure Uli Hoeneß.
Hoeness, whose main role is ambassadorial in nature, has indirect power in the club’s boardroom and can influence proceedings. He has now come out to state that the club will do everything to keep Kane beyond 2027 and that he will only leave for a large transfer fee despite being in his 30s.
Hoeness told Kicker: “(Kane) didn’t exercise his release clause, which means he’s definitely under contract here until summer 2027.
“What I’m hearing and feeling is that he and his family feel extremely comfortable here.
“You never know when a Saudi comes along and puts a lot of money on the table, but he feels very much at home.”
Hoeness added: “I’d say Harry Kane is worth €150m. But then you see Alexander Isak cost €150m to Liverpool… If Alexander Isak is worth 150 million, then Harry is worth 250 million euros (£217 million).”
The Spurs legend has managed 31 goals and five assists in just 26 games in the Bundesliga this season and another ten goals from nine games in the Champions League.
Wayne Rooney has weighed in on the striker’s form ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
“I think such an important aspect for England is having Harry Kane fit, and if he is, then he’ll be a major reason why we do win it if we do,” Rooney told the Press Association.
“But if you go into any game and you’re not fully committed to that game because you’re thinking of something else, then you potentially could get injured.
“Any player will tell you that you’re playing for your club, and when you’re playing for your club, that’s all that matters until that season is over, then you go away with England, and then England takes over.
“I don’t think he’ll be slowing down. Hopefully Bayern Munich has the league won quite early, and head coach Vincent Kompany gives him a little bit of help”
