The NBA is back in action, with Media Day taking place for most clubs on Monday, and training camp workouts starting on Tuesday. This yearly occasion allows players and coaches to engage with reporters and participate in photo shoots before preparations for the upcoming season get underway.
Some of the most prominent figures anticipated to address the public include LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, and Stephen Curry. James is set to make his first public appearance in his Philadelphia uniform, while Antetokounmpo will talk about his new home in Miami.
Leonard is scheduled to discuss Toronto once more, whereas Curry will address how Golden State remains his home.
NBA Media Day gets underway league-wide
Media Day serves as the customary kickoff event of the NBA season, as teams welcome journalists for interviews and organize photo sessions. The majority of organizations will hold their events on Monday before starting practices the next day.
Houston and Dallas have already conducted their Media Day events, having been granted permission to start early because both franchises are traveling overseas during the preseason. The remaining 28 teams will formally begin their journeys on Monday.
New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson also indicated his return to basketball responsibilities after hosting the season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” on NBC. The reigning NBA Finals MVP said he was prepared to get back to his “real job.”
NBA camps gear up for Tuesday practices
For the majority of the league, Tuesday will signal the start of training camp practices. Players will transition from Monday’s media obligations into on-court preparations as teams begin working toward the new season.
The start of camp also brings the first practices for five coaches who are taking over new teams. Jamahl Mosley will guide New Orleans, Sean Sweeney will lead Orlando, Taylor Jenkins will start in Milwaukee, Tiago Splitter will take over in Chicago, and Micah Nori will head Portland.
Their initial sessions in their new roles are set for Tuesday.
NBA coaches step into new positions
Six coaches are entering the season in new roles, with Dallas’ Dusty May having already begun his first camp with the Mavericks.
May previously guided Michigan to the NCAA title last spring before accepting the chance to move to the NBA with Dallas. His first camp with the Mavericks is already in progress due to the team’s early start.
The other five new coaches will open their respective camps on Tuesday, adding another element of change as the NBA gets ready for the new season.
