Free-agent wide receiver Tyreek Hill is planning to play in the upcoming season as he continues recovering from a significant knee injury that led to his departure from the Miami Dolphins. The team released him in February before his contract guarantees for 2026 came into effect. Hill had signed an extension the previous offseason valued at $90 million, with a final-year salary cap figure approaching $52 million.
His representative, Drew Rosenhaus, explained that Hill is prioritizing a full recovery before committing to a new team. Speaking recently, Rosenhaus emphasized that the injury was more complex than a standard ACL tear, involving multiple ligaments. Despite the severity, Hill remains on course to be ready for the start of the regular season, according to medical updates shared with his agent.
The plan, Rosenhaus added, is to ensure Hill returns to peak condition before making any decisions. As a result, the wide receiver is expected to wait until he receives full medical clearance before signing with a franchise.
Recent performance and career highlights
Hill’s most recent season was limited, as he finished with 21 receptions for 265 yards and one touchdown. Those numbers followed a 2024 campaign that marked the lowest statistical output of his career.
However, his earlier tenure in Miami showcased elite production. In his first two seasons with the Dolphins, Hill recorded back-to-back years with 119 catches and 1,700 receiving yards. His 13 touchdown receptions in 2023 ranked as the second-highest total of his career.
Before joining Miami, Hill spent six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he earned eight Pro Bowl selections and secured a Super Bowl title at the end of the 2019 season. Over his first 10 years in the league, he accumulated 11,363 receiving yards, placing him ninth all-time for that span. Additionally, his 28 touchdown catches of at least 50 yards rank fourth in NFL history.
Potential destinations for a playoff push
As Hill approaches free agency, his preference is to join a competitive team. Several franchises in need of a dynamic receiving option could emerge as suitors, including the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, and New England Patriots.
Baltimore has previously added experienced wide receivers such as DeAndre Hopkins, Odell Beckham Jr., and Dez Bryant in recent seasons, indicating a willingness to invest in veteran talent. Meanwhile, New England recently parted ways with Stefon Diggs to create financial flexibility and has so far brought in Romeo Doubs to headline its receiving corps.
Elsewhere, Minnesota has reportedly explored adding another pass-catching option for Kyler Murray, who joined the team on a one-year contract. With multiple playoff-hopeful teams evaluating their offensive weapons, Hill is expected to draw strong interest once he is fully cleared to return.
