Josh Jacobs freed after arrest while investigation into allegations continues

Josh Jacobs was taken into custody on Tuesday following an alleged domestic-related incident in Wisconsin. Authorities in Hobart-Lawrence responded to a disturbance call at approximately 8:37 a.m. on May 23, according to a police statement.

He was later booked into the Brown County Jail and faced multiple allegations tied to the reported event, including domestic battery, property damage in a domestic context, disorderly behavior in a domestic setting, strangulation and suffocation, and intimidation of a victim. Police also noted that Jacobs surrendered himself to authorities and that the matter remained under active investigation, with no additional details released at the time.

Release from custody and status of case review

Jacobs was released from jail on Wednesday after the Brown County District Attorney’s Office said it was not ready to proceed with a formal charging decision. Prosecutors indicated they needed further investigative work completed before determining whether criminal charges would be pursued.

The district attorney’s office explained that while arrests can be made based on probable cause, a charging decision requires evidence strong enough to meet the standard of proof beyond a reasonable doubt in court. Officials also stated that further evidence might still exist that could influence both whether charges are filed and what form they could take.

Legal team response and denial of allegations

Jacobs’ attorneys said they were pleased with his release and the absence of immediate charges and urged patience while the investigation continues. They emphasized that the situation is still at an early stage and that additional evidence had not yet been publicly reviewed.

The legal team also reiterated Jacobs’ denial of wrongdoing, stating he “vehemently denies the allegations” and expressing confidence that a full review of the evidence would ultimately show that no charges should be brought.

Team and league reaction amid ongoing investigation

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said the team was aware of the situation and would not provide further comment due to the ongoing legal process.

The NFL also confirmed it had been informed and was in contact with the club regarding the matter.

On the field, Jacobs is entering his third season with Green Bay. He produced 929 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in the previous season, missing two games and narrowly falling short of the 1,000-yard mark for the fifth time in his career. Across his NFL tenure, he has earned multiple Pro Bowl selections and a first-team All-Pro honor.
