Hunter set for full return as Jaguars prepare for camp

Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen said last month that the team was still uncertain about when Travis Hunter would be ready to return at full strength. That situation has now changed, with the wide receiver and cornerback expected to receive full medical clearance before training camp begins on July 28.

According to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Media, Hunter is on track to be completely available when the Jaguars begin their preparations. The update comes after the rookie spent months recovering from a significant knee injury.

Knee surgery and rehabilitation journey

Hunter suffered a torn lateral collateral ligament in his right knee during a practice session on October 30. He later underwent surgery on November 11 in Dallas, with Cowboys team doctor Dr. Dan Cooper and Jaguars team doctor Dr. Kevin Kaplan carrying out the procedure.

The young player has continued to make progress during his rehabilitation and is now reaching impressive speed levels. Wolfe reported that Hunter is currently running at more than 20 mph, a pace he has not previously reached.

Jaguars expect bigger defensive role

Before his injury ended his rookie campaign, Hunter appeared in seven games and took part in 324 offensive snaps along with 162 defensive snaps. His contributions included 28 receptions for 298 yards and one touchdown on offense.

Defensively, Hunter recorded 15 tackles during his limited time on the field. The Jaguars are now expecting him to have an increased role at cornerback this season, as the team has a need at that position.

A return brings fresh expectations

With Hunter nearing a full recovery, Jacksonville appears set to have one of its key young players available for the beginning of training camp. His ability to contribute on both sides of the ball remains an important part of the team’s plans moving forward.
