Garnacho struggles for role under Rosenior

Alejandro Garnacho’s passion for Stranger Things is etched into his skin, but his own breakthrough story is currently on hold. The 21-year-old winger is finding it difficult to make a consistent impact at Stamford Bridge, where questions about his form and role continue to grow.

Limited opportunities under Rosenior

Since Liam Rosenior took charge, Garnacho has struggled to secure a regular place in the starting lineup. He has featured from the outset in just seven of the manager’s first 20 matches, with most of his appearances coming in cup fixtures against lower-level opposition such as Pafos, Charlton, Hull City and Wrexham.

Despite arriving last summer in a £40 million move from Manchester United, the Argentine has yet to firmly establish himself. His attacking output has been questioned, while there have also been concerns about lapses in defensive concentration.

Still, there remains a chance for him to play a bigger role before the end of the campaign. With fellow left-sided option Jamie Gittens sidelined for three months due to recurring hamstring problems, opportunities could open up if Garnacho can seize them.

Reflecting on his Manchester United exit

Garnacho has been open about the circumstances surrounding his departure from Manchester United. While he insisted he holds no resentment toward the club, he admitted his final months were challenging, as he found himself spending more time on the bench.

He acknowledged that part of the situation may have been down to his own behavior, describing it as a difficult period in his life that required important decisions. Allegations of poor discipline, professionalism issues, and controversial social media activity involving both him and his brother contributed to his exit under former manager Ruben Amorim.

Despite that turbulent ending, Garnacho has emphasized that he still values his time at United, recalling fond memories including scoring in their 2024 FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

Future uncertain but potential remains

At Chelsea, Garnacho has repeatedly expressed his satisfaction, highlighting the support of teammate Enzo Fernandez, whom he has described as a guiding figure. He has also been working to improve aspects of his game, particularly his defensive responsibilities.

Manager Liam Rosenior has praised the winger’s talent and attitude in training, stressing that consistency is the key challenge for young players. Garnacho himself has addressed public perception, saying he is aware some view him as arrogant, though he insists he is simply a normal person despite his appearance attracting attention.

Looking ahead, his future remains unclear. Chelsea have not made any firm decisions regarding a potential summer move, although links to a loan with River Plate have emerged. With new attacking reinforcements planned and competition increasing, departures within the squad are expected, leaving Garnacho’s next step uncertain.
