Tottenham continued their strong away form in the Premier League with a commanding win over Everton, marking the Toffees’ first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Before this encounter, Everton had gone unbeaten in their opening five fixtures at their new home, having departed Goodison Park after 133 years.
Spurs captain Micky van de Ven proved decisive, finding the net twice in the first half from corner situations to stun the home crowd. His quickfire brace gave the visitors early control and placed Everton’s flawless home record in jeopardy.
VAR drama denies Everton equaliser
Everton appeared to have drawn level when Jake O’Brien powered a header beyond Guglielmo Vicario just minutes after Van de Ven’s opener. However, the celebrations were cut short following a VAR intervention. Referee Craig Pawson was advised to consult the pitchside monitor and ultimately disallowed the goal, ruling that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye had been offside and had obstructed the Tottenham goalkeeper’s view.
Despite creating several openings, including multiple chances for Beto, the hosts failed to find a breakthrough. Vicario delivered a composed performance in goal, producing a series of key saves to protect Spurs’ lead.
Sarr seals It as spurs climb the table
Any hopes of a late Everton comeback were dashed when Pape Matar Sarr added a third goal late on. The midfielder met a cross from former Everton man Richarlison to head home and secure the points for Tottenham.
The victory extends Spurs’ unbeaten away run in the league to five matches and lifts Thomas Frank’s men to third place in the table, five points behind leaders Arsenal. Everton, meanwhile, remain in 14th position, six points clear of the relegation zone.
