Griezmann nets 200th goal as Atletico cruise past Frankfurt

Atletico Madrid wasted little time making their mark, striking within four minutes. Giacomo Raspadori calmly converted after Giuliano Simeone delivered a precise pass into the middle.

The home side doubled their advantage not long after when defender Robin Le Normand reacted quickly to Julian Alvarez’s corner, steering the ball into the net.

Frankfurt found themselves under pressure throughout the first half, struggling to keep up with the Spanish side’s intensity and sharp movement.

Griezmann milestone and celebration

Just before the interval, Julian Alvarez produced a brilliant solo run, weaving through defenders before laying the ball off for Antoine Griezmann. The forward applied the finishing touch to record his 200th strike for Atletico.

Griezmann acknowledged the landmark by lifting a special shirt bearing “Grizi 200” in front of the supporters.

Although he later thought he had grabbed another, a handball meant the effort was disallowed.

Frankfurt response and Atleti’s reply

The German visitors managed to reduce the deficit in the second half when Jonathan Burkardt’s shot, deflected off Marcos Llorente, wrong-footed the goalkeeper to make it 3-1.

However, Atletico quickly restored their cushion as Giuliano Simeone arrived at the far post to convert, ensuring the advantage remained comfortable.

Alvarez adds final flourish

With ten minutes remaining, Alvarez capped his outstanding display. After Aurele Amenda was penalized for handball, the Argentine forward chipped in a composed Panenka penalty, sealing a convincing scoreline.

By the final whistle, Atletico had secured their first Champions League victory of the campaign with style and efficiency.
