Victor Osimhen and Baris Yilmaz struck in extra time as Galatasaray withstood a remarkable rally from 10-man Juventus to advance to the Champions League last 16.
The Italian side appeared on the verge of a famous recovery when Weston McKennie headed home with eight minutes remaining, drawing the tie level at 5-5 on aggregate.
Juventus had entered the second leg trailing 5-2 from the meeting in Istanbul, but captain Manuel Locatelli ignited belief by converting a first-half penalty after Lucas Torreira fouled Khephren Thuram.
Despite the deficit, the hosts continued to push forward in pursuit of a historic turnaround.
Controversial red card shifts momentum
Juventus’ hopes suffered another blow early in the second half when Lloyd Kelly was dismissed in contentious fashion.
The English defender initially received a second yellow card after catching Yilmaz on the back of the Achilles while landing from an aerial duel. Following a VAR review, the caution was upgraded to a straight red.
The decision came after Juan Cabal had already been sent off in the first leg, compounding frustration for the Italian side.
Nevertheless, even reduced to 10 men, Juventus responded impressively to keep their ambitions alive.
Extra-time strike seals tie for Turkish side
Federico Gatti reignited the contest in the 70th minute, finishing from close range after a cross by Pierre Kalulu.
The Allianz Stadium roared when McKennie added his second of the evening to level the aggregate scoreline, raising hopes of a dramatic qualification.
But after Edon Zhegrova failed to find the target with a promising opportunity, Juventus began to fade in extra time.
Osimhen restored Galatasaray’s advantage with a low finish after being set up by Yilmaz, and the Turkish side confirmed progression when Yilmaz calmly slotted past Mattia Perin in the final minute.
Galatasaray now await either Liverpool or Tottenham, marking their first appearance in the competition’s last 16 since the 2013-14 season.
