Germany edge Luxembourg in key qualifying victory

Germany struggled to create clear openings during the first 45 minutes as Luxembourg defended well.

The stalemate was broken shortly after the restart when Nick Woltemade reacted quickly to finish Leroy Sané’s delivery into the net. That goal gave Germany the edge they had been seeking and allowed them to take control of the match.

The early second-half strike set the tone for the rest of the game, with Luxembourg now forced to chase the deficit.

Woltemade seals victory with second goal

Woltemade added a second for both himself and Germany with a composed finish from a precise pass by Ridle Baku just over 20 minutes from the final whistle.

The Newcastle forward’s performance highlighted his recent run of form, following six goals in his debut season in England. His contribution was decisive in securing the three points and underlined his importance to the national side.

Later in the match, Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz attempted to extend the advantage, but his shot was blocked, denying Germany a third goal.

Group standings remain tightly contested

The win lifted Germany to the top of Group A, narrowly ahead of Slovakia on goal difference. Both teams have already ensured a top-two finish, but the automatic qualification spot is still undecided.

The two sides will face each other again in their final qualifier on Monday, 17 November, in Germany, with direct qualification hanging in the balance.

Germany will be hoping to maintain their strong form and secure the top spot in front of their home fans.
