An agreement has reportedly been reached between Marcus Rashford and Barcelona regarding his wages should the move become permanent in the summer. The player’s earnings had previously been viewed as a potential obstacle to completing a full transfer.
Barcelona hold an option to buy the forward from Manchester United for £26 million at the end of the campaign. United are unwilling to lower that valuation, and the Spanish side have not attempted to push the price down. According to SPORT, a meeting involving sporting director Deco and Rashford’s representative Arturo Canales resulted in progress toward aligning the player’s pay with the club’s financial structure.
Rashford is currently earning around €15 million (£13.2m) following an earlier reduction to facilitate his loan switch. Barcelona have continued discussions to establish a structure that fits their parameters and are now prepared to activate the purchase clause in the upcoming transfer window.
Confidence in investment as performances impress
Barcelona believe Rashford’s value could increase in the future and are confident that any eventual departure would allow them to recoup their outlay. Earlier suggestions that the club might try to renegotiate the fee with Manchester United are no longer being pursued.
On the pitch, the England international has delivered solid numbers this season, contributing 10 goals and 13 assists across all competitions. While not always guaranteed a place in the starting lineup, he has made a significant impact.
Among his standout displays was a two-goal performance against Newcastle in the Champions League earlier in the campaign. With Barcelona set to meet the same opponent again in the competition, the 28-year-old may look to repeat that influence.
Flick urges caution ahead of European challenge
Head coach Hansi Flick has stressed the importance of maintaining focus as the Champions League progresses. He emphasized that every fixture demands respect and dismissed any notion of relief at avoiding Paris Saint-Germain in the draw.
Flick acknowledged Newcastle United’s quality, describing them as a strong side and recalling Barcelona’s previous encounter as evidence of their strength. He reiterated that every team remaining in the competition is aiming for the final.
Looking ahead to next season, Rashford could face added rivalry for a starting role. Barcelona are reportedly competing with Arsenal for Julian Alvarez, who currently plays for Atletico Madrid. The 26-year-old is being considered as a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski, whose contract concludes in June.
