AS Monaco continued their strong run in Ligue 1 with an impressive 3–1 triumph away to Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes. The success marked Monaco’s fourth consecutive win in the league and offered a measure of payback after their earlier elimination from the UEFA Champions League by the Paris side.
Despite the setback, PSG still occupies first place in the French championship. The defeat was their fourth in league competition this season, but they maintain a cushion at the top of the standings.
For Monaco, the result provided a significant boost as they aim to climb higher in the table. The visitors produced a composed performance in the French capital, taking their chances and maintaining control for large portions of the match.
The victory also strengthened Monaco’s recent momentum, with the club continuing a positive sequence of domestic results.
Akliouche and Golovin put Monaco in command
The breakthrough arrived in the opening half when Maghnes Akliouche finished from close range to give the away side the advantage. The goal rewarded Monaco’s early attacking pressure and set the tone for the contest.
After the interval, the visitors extended their lead through Aleksandr Golovin. The midfielder completed a well-constructed move in the 55th minute, doubling Monaco’s tally and putting PSG in a difficult position.
The hosts attempted to respond as the match progressed and eventually found a way back into the game through Bradley Barcola. His strike with 19 minutes remaining in normal time briefly revived hopes for the Paris side.
However, Monaco soon regained full control and prevented the home team from building sustained momentum.
Balogun seals result as PSG stays top
The final decisive moment came courtesy of Folarin Balogun, who delivered an impressive effort from the edge of the penalty area. His shot curled and dipped into the far corner beyond goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, ensuring the visitors secured all three points.
Although PSG was defeated, the team coached by Luis Enrique still leads the league table. They remain four points ahead of RC Lens, who have played one match fewer.
Monaco’s triumph leaves them in fifth position as they continue their upward push in the standings following a series of positive performances.
Attention for PSG now shifts to European competition, where they are preparing for a two-legged round-of-16 encounter in the UEFA Champions League against Chelsea FC scheduled for Wednesday evening.
